Crinkle love: Feed Company BOM

My Feed Company BOM quilt is done! It already been washed and snuggled with. I'm in love with it!

I have more photos posted on my Flickr account but I just wanted to share a few of my favorite here. Marion did the custom quilting and I have nothing but high praises for her work. She is truly awesome! I loved the quilting done on the original quilt so she mimicked it on mine. I'm so very very happy with it. If you have a quilt needed custom work please look her up. You won't be sorry!

Quilt Stats:
Feed Company Block of the Month by Sweetwater Fabrics
Started: December 2014
Completed: March 2016
Quilted by Marion McClellan

For those curious, the iron on designs do soften up quite a bit and get a bit more distressed in the wash. Just remember to wash them gently with cold water and let them air dry. After mine fully air dried I did toss it in the dryer for 10 minutes on low heat to soften it up a bit, but I wouldn't do more than that.

This quilt was part of my edited first quarter goals for the 2016 Finish Along. Well, 1 out of 3 ain't bad in my book. :)

Holly's Tree Farm Backing

For my Feed Company quilt (which I'm still pinching pennies to get quilted) I decided to go with a single fabric for the backing, the bandana print in navy. For Holly's Tree Farm I initially was going to do a single print again, but after some searching on Pinterest I decided to piece a back.

I found this helpful page with 6 different ideas to piece a backing. I decided to go with the pattern below:
I picked 2 prints from Holly's Tree Farm and 1 from Feed Company, these two collections play so well together. :)
I fell in love with the 'store fronts' print so I decided that it would be the middle section. I chose to go with the graphite/grey color. The green 'pick your tree' print is for the narrow bands on either side of the middle, and the Feed Company plaid will be the top and bottom.
This backing will provide some great interest without taking away from the front. I'm getting excited, I can't wait until the top is all done and I can send it off to the quilters. If you're doing this BOM and would like my measurements for this backing let me know. I'd be happy to send you my sketch. :)

New Sweetwater BOM

Are you a follower of Sweetwater's blog yet? Did you see their newest BOM? So cute!!

Check it out here

Well, it's not really a BOM since you'll be getting everything in one shipment. I'm on the fence on whether I want to do this one. I'm thinking I might just do the custom block and turn it into a pillow. But I know that I want to get my hands on some of this fabric, it is so sweet! Just wanted to give you all a heads up as the deadline is August 28th. See their blog for more details

Holly's Tree Farm progress

I thought I would share with you my progress on the Holly's Tree Farm BOM. As with my Feed Company quilt, I'm going minimalist on the embroidery. The first two blocks had me stumped on how embroider them, I wasn't sure if I should just do the borders or include some of the text and other design elements (like those cute trees!). So I didn't really start on anything until after the second month of blocks arrived. Ahh, much better. These were much easier to decide on, doing just the borders provided the minimalist look I was going for.

I'm still working on the block below from month one and then I have the other block from that month to do. The third month blocks will be here in a few weeks and I hope to get caught up before they arrive.

Holly's Tree Farm block of the month

My first two blocks for the Holly's Tree Farm block of the month arrived today! The fabric arrived on Monday and I can't wait to get started! This is going to be one cute quilt.

They even sent an adorable mini block ornament. So cute! I think I may gift the ornament but the quilt is all mine. :)

One thing I did notice is that the embroidery instructions listed the same floss colors as the Feed Company BOM. But if you look on the quilt pattern (where it lists the fabric requirements) you will find the list of colors needed for Holly's Tree Farm.

If you're stitching along, here are the embroidery colors that you need (all DMC):

Red: 816
Green: 471
Blue: 503
Grey: 640
Cream: 746

2015 Finish: Feed Company BOM

My first finish of 2015!

I had cut the fabric a week or so ago but Sunday I got the urge to sew the quilt top together. I sewed the quilt top minus the borders that day and yesterday I put the borders on. I'm so pleased with how it came out!

I have no idea when this will be quilted. I plan on mimicking the quilting used on the original, so I need to save my pennies for a custom job. My hope is to have it quilted by the end of this year, but who knows if that will happen. But I'm so glad this is one quilt top I can cross off my list.

Feed Company BOM: Final Four

I finished up the final four blocks over the weekend. Lots of down time :)

I asked if I could put my wedding year instead of our town, and they said yes! I'm so thrilled with the result. I just ordered the coordinating quilt label, you can find it here. I hope to have the quilt top finished by summer. I can't wait to see it all together.

Feed Company BOM progress

I thought I'd post my progress on my Feed Company block of the month quilt. If you're doing the BOM too you'll notice I haven't done as much embroidery as the original examples and a few of the blocks I changed up the colors and stitches. I decided to only do the outlines and a few of the design elements, to save on time. I'm liking the minimalist look on these blocks. I haven't gotten to the two April blocks yet and the final two blocks will be arriving in a few weeks. I hope to start cutting into my fabric soon as I am trying to get as many quilts as possible done (at least the quilt top finished) before the fall.

Feed Company Block of the Month

I'm having lots of fun stitching up Sweetwater's newest block of the month featuring their new collection Feed Company.
When I saw it on their blog last year I knew I had to get it. It's my Christmas present from my husband (that I purchased while he was at work hehe) and I'm looking forward to seeing it completed.

So far I got three of the blocks done and I'm working on the fourth. I'm on the fence with doing more embroidery, I've only done the borders so far. I'm toying with the idea of embroidering the letters, but I haven't decided yet. I figure I'll live with it for a bit and see if I want to add any more later. I'm already looking forward to next month's blocks. :)

If you missed out on this BOM keep an eye on their blog, they are having another BOM featuring their Christmas collection Holly's Tree Farm. I can't wait! I'm getting that one too. :)
