Laced and framed

Last Saturday I spent the afternoon lacing and framing my 'Blessed' embroidery. With it being such an odd size (8" x 6") I first got an estimate for custom framing at Joann's. It would have been $50+ for the frame and glass, a bit too expensive but I wanted to know just in case. I wandered around the frame aisles hoping to find something close enough in size. And I did! I found a 9" x 7" frame on sale for 40% off. Less than $20 beats $50+ any day. :)

I used this tutorial for lacing the fabric and I found the acid-free foam board at Walmart. I even remembered to print up a label and put it on the back of the board for future reference.

I'm really happy with how it turned out and now it's safely behind glass for all to enjoy. Hopefully, for years to come. :)

Holly's Tree Farm block of the month

My first two blocks for the Holly's Tree Farm block of the month arrived today! The fabric arrived on Monday and I can't wait to get started! This is going to be one cute quilt.

They even sent an adorable mini block ornament. So cute! I think I may gift the ornament but the quilt is all mine. :)

One thing I did notice is that the embroidery instructions listed the same floss colors as the Feed Company BOM. But if you look on the quilt pattern (where it lists the fabric requirements) you will find the list of colors needed for Holly's Tree Farm.

If you're stitching along, here are the embroidery colors that you need (all DMC):

Red: 816
Green: 471
Blue: 503
Grey: 640
Cream: 746

One finished and another started

I finished my 'Blessed' embroidery project last Saturday.

And I started my new project Sunday. :)

I plan on having the 'Blessed' embroidery framed and hung up. My new project comes from Clementine Pattern Co., it is part of their 4 seasons series. This one is summer. I plan on doing all 4 seasons and then hanging them up when done. I love all their designs, after I get done with the seasons I hope to do a few more.

2015 Finish: Feed Company BOM

My first finish of 2015!

I had cut the fabric a week or so ago but Sunday I got the urge to sew the quilt top together. I sewed the quilt top minus the borders that day and yesterday I put the borders on. I'm so pleased with how it came out!

I have no idea when this will be quilted. I plan on mimicking the quilting used on the original, so I need to save my pennies for a custom job. My hope is to have it quilted by the end of this year, but who knows if that will happen. But I'm so glad this is one quilt top I can cross off my list.

WIP: Fair Isle Fir Trees

I got my burst of motivation last night and finished up the Fair Isle blocks. Just like with the poinsettias, I had to cut a few pieces from scrap because the originals ended up being 1/4" too small. I don't know if it's my fabric choices, piecing or cutting that's causing this issue but I'm glad that I have quite a bit of scraps! :)

Blessed

I've been working on this embroidery for over a year now. Split stitch is not my favorite and that's what the pattern called for. So I ended up putting it down for a long time because of that. But I recently picked it back up after realizing that I didn't have to follow the pattern to the tee. Kind of a "duh!" moment. :) So now it's back on track and filling in nicely. The only split stitch you will see is on the quilt's outline, the hair (both mom and son) and possibly on the word 'blessed'. Haven't decided on that yet. I hope it have it done soon as the Holly's Tree Farm block of the month will be starting this month.

The pattern is Blessed by Sarah Jane Studios found here or here
Her patterns are so cute, I plan on purchasing a few more in the future.
